STEERING GROUPS

Steering Group Information

Local ownership of all pilgrim routes is key to the SPRF ethos, expressed through the work of volunteer Steering Groups comprising groups and individuals acting as local stakeholders in each route.

The legal status and governance structure of a Steering Group may vary from an independent SCIO with its own charity trustees to an unincorporated association operating solely under the aegis of SPRF. Their role is to covers key issues such as route scoping, contact with landowners, signage, interpretation, website and social media links, route infrastructure including pilgrim accommodation, and compliance with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code

Each Steering Group is responsible for applying for Scottish Pilgrim Way™ accreditation for its route and maintaining this route to the required standard once accredited.
